This years Spring Thaw 2014 started in Squamish BC on Friday morning with 75 pre 1980 sports cars (some post 1980 were also admitted if special versions or cars of long running production) . My son Chris and I drove over in the Mini 30 VTEC and stayed in North Vancouver the night before . We headed to Squamish first thing in the morning. Ther was a good representation from the Minis which included an English Moke, a pickup and 6 sedans.
The first day saw us cover about 460km using back roads (can you say twisty and fun) ending the day in Kamloops where we had an excellent banquet dinner that evening.
We were up bright and early and on the road again on Saturday, enjoying more fun roads 450km, and some intermittent weather, including sun, rain, more rain, snow, sleet, hail, and more sun. We ended this day in Penticton where the weather stayed nice enough to spend the early evening enjoying beer and appies on the patio. another good banquet was held on Saturday night and lot’s of draw prizes were given out.
Sunday was a shorter day with just over 250km, driving on roads like Green Mountain road, and the Old Yale road on our way from Penticton to Hope. The event wrapped up with a lunch and the final awards presentations.
Chris and I then scooted off driving to Tswassen to catch the BC Ferry home to Victoria.
