Christmas Party

hogan tMike and Deb Smith are hosting this year’s event being held on Sunday, 6 December.  It will start around 2:30 pm and goes till 6 pm or so.
We will have door prizes to be given away during the party.  As it is a pot luck affair, if you can, let us know what food dish choice you will be bringing, so that we have an idea of what we will need for the party.  Of course, please bring whatever your choice of beverages (Milk, pop, beer, wine or other) you like as well.  If you know any of the Alumni of the Victoria Minis Car Club, let them know about the party as well and it is always good to see old friends that we don’t get together with too often.
If you can, contact me victoriaminiscarclub@gmail.com  so I can give you further details and we can have an idea of how many will be attending the Christmas Bash.

Next Event “The Amazing Race”

hall m&dSunday September 27th. 1- 4pm

Starting at 1:00 Tim Horton’s – Shellbourne and Cedar Hill x Road.
You have heard of the TV show The Amazing Race, well think of that format on our club’s event budget and with you know who organizing it. Four locations you get to drive your own car to, (be it a Mini, Toyota, Porsche or Land Rover) Four team challenges to complete. Challenges may include but not be limited to: Walking on wet grass (proper footwear is recommended and not provided) Golf (well sort of) Croquet (or is it croquette one has to do with potatoes)
Sock tossing (sock will be provided, may even be donated by the person not wearing proper wet coast footwear) Bocce (with a real pallino or maybe just a potato)
Gum Boot tossing or Welly tossing for some of you (or even tossing a potato into a gumboot or Welly) There may even be no potatoes at all? Just like on the TV show, teams will complete each challenge, once everyone has had a chance, then we all proceed to the next destination.
Teams will be formed by the organizer.
If you would like to participate – Please let me know.
If you would like to go out for early supper at the 4 mile pub (we had a great dinner there after last years Poker Run)
Please let me know.

Cheers Doug

Sunday, September 13, 2015  was a great sunny day at the Fort Rodd Hill Park. The English Car Affair in the Park had all types of English automobiles on show.  Several members of our club attended and it was a pleasure to answer all sorts of questions being asked by the fellow car folks and general public about the Minis and the rare GTM.  Karen brought her Lotus-Mini and the MINIs were equally appreciated as well.  Linda and Mike were lucky on this day to win draw prizes.  Here are a few photos.

hogan t PORTLAND ABFM  It was a zero dark-thirty rise to board the 6:10 am COHO sailing to Port Angeles.  We had a good sized convoy of cars that represented both old and new Minis to display at the Portland All British Field Meet (ABFM) held at the Portland International Raceway from 4 – 6 September 2015.  The road trip created by Mike with input from others was a lot of fun.  We stopped off at Rochester WA for lunch in the Highway Diner that provided us with excellent food, and service all for a reasonable price (strongly recommend stopping there if you can – try the Pie!).  Arriving at our accommodations, we took time to clean up the cars.  The ABFM having over 800 English vehicles in attendance was almost a sensory overload.  The SOVREN racing along with the autocross and Slalom and off-roading provided non-stop fun. Dwayne, Merville, Richard and Terry all took home awards for their Class of car.  In the evening we were joined by other car enthusiasts for yet another delightful meal at the Stanford’s Restaurant and Bar in Jantzen Beach SuperCenter.  The Sunday provided great deals at the Swap and Shop and of course the racing continued despite a bit of rainy weather.  After spending a few hours at the Swap and Shop, those of us that wished to get some mall shopping done were rewarded with good deals.   On our return journey, Linda navigated us to the Black Bear Diner in Sequim WA that Richard had recommended where again, we all enjoyed a very good meal.  Our journey ended with the Coho back to Victoria.  It was a fantastic trip with lots of laughter and good times. For those that have not done it, you should consider doing in the future (so keep it in mind as it is held during the Labor Day Long weekend).

Below are more pictures that Mike Smith passed on from the Portland All British Field Meet.

Mini Selfie Pick. Where's Richard

Doug as always ensures he takes care of even the smallest details to make an event fun! For example, today he went to the extent of keeping the rain away till after lunch (2pm to be precise) so that we could enjoy the ride first, followed by a nice lunch and then a free car wash on the way home with the rain. What a guy!!
The day started off when we left Timi Hortons near Costco around 10:30. With the nicely ordered weather we all agreed to modify the route and add in a quick detour to the Kinsol trestle. The combination of highway riding, backroad twists, off roading, and hiking generated a lot of smiles and generated big appetites. It truly had every element to showcase how great the mini is to drive in varying conditions. And with such a great ride came a great lunch in Cow Bay. Below are just a few pictures courtesy of Doug and Alan of our visit to Kinsol Trestle, the suspension bridge at Bright Angel Park, salute to the flying pig on cherry point road, and lastly some great fall color scenery.
P.S. Don’t forget this weeks club meeting if you can make it.
It’s at Alan and Jeans 7pm Wednesday October 15’th. We will be discussing several items including the upcoming AGM,  Christmas Party and Mini Meet West 2015, that we are co-hosting with the Vancouver Mini Club.
Cheers,
Duane

1). Yes the third generation of the modern mini was unveiled last week at Auto Shows. The mini is a bit bigger in size and has many changes to its electronics and engine line up. Click on the pictures below to see front and rear pictures of the 3rd generation mini beside the second generation, first generation and the classic mini original.

2). Mike has just given us the link to 2014 Mini Meet (East meets West). The event will be held in Milwaukee, WI from Jul 2nd – 6’th. I’m sure we will be talking more about this event and more in coming weeks and month’s. Check out more Mini Meet details at http://minimeet2014.com/

Car Shows

2014 Van Dusen All British Field meet.

Portland Show

chapman dGreat Event. It was hot and sunny. Probably 800 cars in attendance. There were 66 classic mini’s and probably 30 modern mini’s in attendance. In “peoples choice” the club picked up 5 awards. Linda and Terry picked up a first with Linda’s blue Mini Cooper and a second place with Terry’s white classic mini. Mike picked up a first place with the GTM in the Mini Variant class. Richard picked up first in the Lotus Elise and Exige class and I picked up 3rd in the the modern mini class. Overall our family really enjoyed getting to know our fellow club members better over dinner, eating 50 cent ice cream cones, alternator/battery meetings, rooster displays, palm trees and informal mini tailgate parties in the parking lot . It was also nice to see friends from the local MG club and the Oregon Mini club. Below are some pictures from the show. My favourite car was the new Morgan 3 wheeler powered by an S&S two litre motorcycle engine in british racing green. Too bad we can’t import them to Canada.

Portland all british day one

We had a great day travelling to Portland. All 8 cars made it and we saw no rain. We picked up our packages at the speedway, spent some time cleaning the cars and grabbed some food before bed. Everyone is looking forward to the Saturday car show.
