What a great way to start the summer and celebrate Father’s Day. Richard created a fantastic drive around Greater Victoria that had great turns and bumps that made it a challenge to write the answers down as you drove by. We maintained the 2-metre space between families at all times and did not exceed the number of people allowed to get together. The questions were not too challenging, yet there were no signs of 100 percent from any of the vehicles at the end of the drive. It did however, come down to a tie-breaker question to determine the winner. Graham and Daniel came closest to the actual number of Australian Mokes that rolled off the assembly lines. To the folks in the couple of vehicles lost due to mechanical issues along the way, I am glad that you made it home safely (albeit at a somewhat reduced speed). Finally thanks to all that were able to join us and hope more of you can do so at our next event. The attachments are a few photos that I took along the way.
A modified Mini Meet West 2020 is now going to take place in Portland Oregon and will be hosted by the Oregon Minis Society (OMS) in conjunction with the All British Field Meet scheduled for the Labour Day Long Weekend 4-6 September 2020. See the website at https://www.minimeetwest.com/ to get information on the new registration required for this event.
MMW2021 in Beautiful Victoria, British Columbia
The good news is that the Victoria Minis Car Club and The Vancouver Mini Club proudly announce Mini Meet West is to be held in Beautiful Victoria British Columbia on June 27 to June 30, 2021. The host hotel for the event is the Sheraton 4 Points Hotel, located just a few minutes from downtown Victoria. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and is located on Vancouver Island, just a short ferry ride from Vancouver BC, or from Port Angeles Washington. See you there!
Vancouver Island is the largest island off the west coast of North America. Tucked against the mainland coast of British Columbia and the north shore of Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, Vancouver Island occupies an area about the size of Holland.
The island stretches 500 kilometres (320 miles) southeast to northwest with an area of 3,175,000 hectares and 2,150 miles of coastline. It is separated from Vancouver, B.C. by the Strait of Georgia to the east and from Washington State, U.S. by the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the south and southeast. Vancouver Island is actually closer to the United States than mainland Canada.
The MMW2020 Organizing Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the MMW2020 event in Victoria BC this year. We do not make this decision lightly, but we realize that protecting the health of our Mini friends and their families, as well as our sponsors and partners is a higher priority than holding the meet.
We have worked with all our venues and the other Mini clubs with the intent of moving the event to the same time next year in beautiful Victoria, BC. Stay tuned for future updates.
What better way to start the year 2020 than with an array of vintage cars and vintage substitutes gleaming under the bright sun. The MG Club graciously extended us an invitation to join them and several of our members responded to make it a very successful drive. We had a joyful drive around the Saanich Peninsula starting at Cattle Point where a brisk wind reminded us that it was not July on the Island. We took a leisurely drive along the Eastern roads until we crossed the Pat Bay Highway (Hwy 17) to join up with the rest of the cavalcade . From here we continued up the secondary roads past wonderful vistas and smiling faces that greeted us all along our route until we ended the drive at the Waddling Dog off the Pat Bay Highway for a wonderful lunch and chit chat with our MG Club hosts. Many thanks to Stu and Derrick of the MG Club for arranging this drive. we will be having more events in the future and hope to see you there. Happy New Year!
Hi to all of you, It is that festive time of year again. We had a fantastic Christmas party on the weekend, with all that attended enjoying the food, refreshments, and camaraderie. Alan and Jean did an outstanding job hosting the party and had excellent music. Thanks to Alan for the photos! I heard from several of you, but wish I heard from everyone regarding the party. I know everyone is busy and even more so with the Christmas festive season upon us; perhaps we will see you at the next one. 1. NEW YEAR’S DAY DRIVE 2019– The New Year’s Day Burn is on and will be similar to last years spirited run. Meet Ross and Stu at the Sysco parking lot at approximately 11.00am with a 11.30 sharp departure. To get to the Sysco Parking Lot from the Island Hwy, turn left at the traffic light onto Westshore Parkway and at the roundabout, take the first right exit onto Amy Rd then left onto the Sysco parking lot. (opposite the Shell station and Timmy’s) Lunch at the Loghouse Pub on Millstream Rd will follow the run. You don’t have to have your MINI/Mini, you can always use your other vehicle if you want to. It is for the fun and the spirit of friendship between various Clubs.
I am looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing you on New Year’s Day. 2. 8 July 2018 (Sunday) Brits On The Beach in Ladysmith
It is held at Transfer Beach on the right hand side as you enter into Ladysmith (there are signs). We will be departing from Time Horton’s off Millstream Ave (same area as Best Buy/Future Shop) at 8:15 am-ish. It takes about 70 minutes to get there. It is recommended that you bring you own chairs, possibly sun shade and a picnic to enjoy. If you are planning to buy food at the concession stand, do it prior to 11:15 am or be prepared for very long waits in the queue. They are also asking for donations for the Ladysmith Food Bank. During the day, we can plan something to do when we get back. Follow this link for more info.
We will be having an afternoon drive on Sunday 15 July 2018 that will be approximately one hour and a half with stops and will end at a pub for an afternoon meal. Engines on at 1:30 pm-ish. We will meet at the Sysco parking lot at 2814 Amy Rd Victoria. Take the Westshore Parkway exit off the Island Highway and at the first roundabout, it is opposite the gas station. RSVP to Terry if you plan to attend, so I have an idea of how many of us will be doing it.
Had a fantastic time at the Father’s Day Picnic in the Park held in Beacon Hill Park on Sunday, 17 June 2018.
I would like to thank Mike as one of our Club volunteers for coming in very early to help the Old English Car Club in guiding and placing of the vehicles. It was a picture perfect day with an overflow of cars gleaming in the sun.
We had an excellent collection of Minis/MINIs as you can see in the pictures. As always there were many gems and I selected a few to share with you. Thanks to all of you that came out and enjoyed this multi-club English cars celebration!
It was a great Sunday drive around the Saanich Peninsula on a fantastic sunny and warm day. A mighty contingent of Minis, MINIS and Mini substitutes were given the thumbs up by many folks as we rolled along on the less traveled roads where we like to spend our time. Bengt-Olov Andersson (BOA), a Mini enthusiast all the way from Sweden rode with Krista and had a wonderful time. At one of the stops, BOA provided the members with fun stories and items from his club (Mini Seven Club Sweden https://www.facebook.com/MiniSevenClubSweden/posts/2040149269411119 ) one of the oldest Mini Clubs in existence. Terry tested his band of travelers by having them do a U-turn on each leg of the route he had chosen. Afterwards, all enjoyed an excellent meal and gracious hospitality at the Spitfire Grill (9681 Willingdon Rd, Sidney by the airport). I would like to thank everyone that was able to make it and hope to see all of you again on the next drive.
Don’t forget the OECC Restoration and Swap Meet at Heritage Acres off Hwy 17 (Pat Bay Hwy) on 6 May 2018 commencing parking at 8 – 10:00 AM and public from 10AM-3PM. Cost per person is $4.00 with proceeds supporting ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Society.
Drive 22 April 2018 1:30 pm – There will be a drive on Sunday 22 April 2018 Starting at 1:30 pm meeting at the Beaver Lake Filter Beds Parking Lot. This drive will take about 1.5 hrs and perhaps we will have a beverage and food afterwards for those that are interested.
The crisp sunny day made for excellent road conditions and an enjoyable drive. We met up and mingled with members of the MG Club whom treated us in their usual friendly manner. MINIs and Minis were well represented and off we went for the drive 1.5 hr which took us on a route that included fantastic scenery and exhilarating roads through Langford, Sooke, Metchosin and Colwood. Some enjoyed the drive, while others met us at the restaurant. At the Axe and Barrel we all enjoyed a very good meal and conversation. Again, I would like to thank the MG Club for including us once again in their New Year’s Day Drive.
