Merville Alison Hall (nee Manning) 1952 – 2016

Merville suddenly soared into the waiting arms of the Lord, January 8, 2016 with her red hat and prayer shawl in hand.

A Red Seal Chef by trade she treated many with her cooking skills. Always tending to the needs of the elderly and young children that were drawn to her.

She loved driving her Mini, wearing red hats and travelling the world.

She is survived by her husband Doug, sons Chris (Anita), Tobi (Joanne), brother Ben Manning, mother Pim Manning, and granddaughters Kendra and Taylor.

Merville will be greatly missed by everyone that ever spent time with her.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Highway Christian Fellowship Church, 10364 McDonald Park Road, Sidney, BC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation in her name to a charity or cause of your choice as she helped so many.

VMCC Mini Amazing Race

6Sunday, 27 September 2015 was an Amazing day for Minis.  All contestants were given an opportunity to go first.  The fearless Terry took the chance and chose the first leg of the competition.  Linda and Terry then successfully led all teams to the Beacon Hill Loop Rd and atop of Beacon Hill the first challenge was issued.  All teams were well matched at Bocce, but the skilled team of Kathy and Richard won out in a sudden death playoff.  Unfortunately, Andrew was recalled to the Bocce National Team and was unable to continue in the competition.  Richard and Kathy demonstrated their athletic prowess taking the Welly tossing as well.  Doug and Merville were like a well-oiled machine during the croquet challenge and overwhelmed all competitors.  Terry and Linda realizing their chances were slipping away regrouped and crushed all comers in a challenging 1-hole Mini-putt competition.  All competitors then recognized that Terry’s courage at the beginning of the competition payed off as he was able to select the clubs that each team used.  It should be noted that without some errant navigation Kathy and Richard would have avoided a Championship playoff against Terry and Linda.  However, Kathy and Richard demonstrated that they were indeed toss-ers (a play on words only) as they used their initiative to sock-it to Terry and Linda in a sock-toss-off to become the Champions of the 1st VMCC Amazing Race competition.  Many thanks to all that attended and judging from the conversation, everyone enjoyed themselves.

Finally, a big thank you to Doug for using his fantastic imagination to create a great afternoon drive.

Pre-mini meet West

With only one more sleep until Mini Meet West 2015 kicks off, what better way for Mini/MINI enthusiasts to share their love of our favourite little car than to have a short drive. A total of 18 vehicles, a joint Canadian & American convoy sent out from downtown towards Cattle Point… it was an amazing site… a complete line of eighteen minis with not a single interruption. Whoop! Plenty of smiles, waves and honks greeting those along Dallas road as we passed. After an extended stop at the point (How do you get mini people to stop gabbing?) the group once again hit the roads, a final destination of Matticks Farm greeted the drivers and passengers. A big thanks to Doug for the route, VicMinis members for attending and our cousins from south of the border for a fun morning. We will see some of you tomorrow in Abbotsford and the rest of you when we get back 😉

Cheers,

Andrew

2). Spring Thaw Event “Mike Smith”

P1010559This years Spring Thaw 2014 started in Squamish BC on Friday morning with 75 pre 1980 sports cars (some post 1980 were also admitted if special versions or cars of long running production) .  My son Chris and I drove over in the Mini 30 VTEC and stayed in North Vancouver the night before . We headed to Squamish first thing in the morning.  Ther was a good representation from the Minis which included an English Moke, a pickup and 6 sedans. The first day saw us cover about 460km using back roads  (can you say twisty and fun) ending the day in Kamloops where we had an excellent banquet dinner that evening.

We were up bright and early and on the road again on Saturday, enjoying more fun roads 450km, and some intermittent weather, including sun, rain, more rain, snow, sleet, hail, and more sun. We ended this day in Penticton where the weather stayed nice enough to spend the early evening enjoying beer and appies on the patio. another good banquet was held on Saturday night and lot’s of draw prizes were given out.

Sunday was a shorter day with just over 250km, driving on roads like Green Mountain road, and the Old Yale road on our way from Penticton to Hope.  The event wrapped up with a lunch and the final awards presentations.

Chris and I then scooted off driving to Tswassen to catch the BC Ferry home to Victoria.

We had a fantastic meeting hosted by Scott (General Manger) and his team at BMW/MINI Victoria Dealership with plenty of food and drinks, as well as, an assortment of MINI swag to be taken away by our members courtesy of Jason (Parts Manager).  The new 3-cylinder MINI Cooper was available for test drives and one of our members had an opportunity to take it out prior to the start of the meeting.  Mike gave us a detailed report of the weekend activities in Harrison Hot Springs that provided the basis of the Mini Meet West 2015 proposal being co-presented by  Vancouver Mini Car Club and the Victoria Minis Car Club.

7.  Last Event.

The Old English Car Club once again did a great job hosting the 9th Annual Restoration and Swap Meet along with the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society (Pictures below).  It was an excellent turnout of English marques, with a great variety of Mini/MINIs models that made for a fun event.  There was plenty of interest in the Club stand and the mini garage as seen in the photos.  The sunshine was a welcome relief from past weekends that were full of rain. Our newest members: Amanda, Richard and William and Bob (their ’62 Austin Mini); and Ben with the 13×7 rims; as well as Allan’s Super Cooper S; Alan’s mighty Moke; Dwayne’s Mini 1.3i Growler; and Linda’s Mini  Mayfair Automatic found themselves surrounded by paparazzi throughout the day.  All said and done, it was a great event and we are looking forward to the events that are coming up.

Have a Heck-of-a-time Drivin’  Happy Easter!

Happy New Year

hogan tHappy New Year everyone!
At least it is according to the VMCC calendar.  Last night, we had our AGM.  It was a stormy night, and I would like to thank all that took the time to attend.  Princess Mary restaurant lived up to Lloyd and Dana’s recommendations and that I think everyone enjoyed themselves.  I would like to thank Jean Margison for taking the minutes of the AGM.  It was also decided that we will be looking into Golf shirts as this years Club memorabilia for renewing membership.  We did survive a close call with a bad joke; and NO, I wasn’t the one that told it; that credit goes to Duane.  I would like to thank the members that have stepped up and renewed their Executive positions and especially those that have done so for the first time.  I am looking forward to this coming year and what it has in store for us.  I would like to thank Richard Ford owner of the Elk Lake Auto Center (NAPA AutoPro) 5498 Patricia Bay Hwy (Hwy 17) for donating the door prize.
We still do not have a host location for the Christmas Party.  Is anyone willing to host it? We have not selected a date as of this time, but it would be a Sunday in the first two weeks of December (either 7 or 14 December) — Your choice.
Also, I will not be here for the 15 November meeting, Is anyone willing to host it?  I would hope that most of the Executive will be there and introduce themselves at that time.  Now,  I would like to introduce you to your new Executive:
President:  Terry Hogan
Membership: Mike Smith
Events Coordinator: Doug Hall (taking up responsibilities from Dwayne Kalynchuk)
Treasurer: Mike Smith
Sponsorship: Dwayne Kalynchuk
Web Minister: Dylan Parker
 Secretary: N/A
Thanks to all of you for your support and I am looking forward to a great year ahead full of adventure and fun!

Queen Alexander Show

chapman d

Janson and I made it down to the Queen Alexander show yesterday. Only one classic mini that I could see on the field but we got a picture of it. Good turnout of Porsche’s, VW’s, Corvettes, Ferrari, BMW, MINI2 and other makes. We actually spent some time in the parking lot checking out some Japanese rides. Below are just a few pic’s we managed to take.
